Tasmanian Pepperberry (Tasmannia  Ianceolata)

Tasmannia_lanceolata.jpg

This shrub is found in the cooler regions of Australia, predominantly Tasmania. The leaves and berry can be used fresh or dried! With its berry content high in antioxidants, the Indigenous people used this plant for its medicinal benefits, ranging from tooth aches to stomach problems. Compared to the familiar traditional black peppercorn, the Tasmanian pepperberry profiles an earthy sharpness with a bite of numbing heat. I enjoy using this versatile plant to season meats and sauces or for drinking in teas.
